Imagine going into the New Year feeling healthy and happy with your body. It's possible to relax and enjoy yourself without undoing all your hard work. To succeed its important to avoid 'extremes' and focus more on a healthy balance.
Here are our 5 simple tips for surviving the silly season.
1. THINK AHEAD
If you know dinner is going to be a huge feast, opt for a smaller high protein breakfast and lunch option that day. Enjoy your event and go right back to your regular eating plan the next meal/day. Having pre-cooked meals in the fridge/freezer makes this a lot easier to stick too.
2. MOVE EVERYDAY
Get your heart rate up for at least 30 minutes a day, whether it's walking, dancing, swimming or playing backyard sports with the family, just move!
3. BE MINDFUL OF ALCOHOL
Know your limits, especially if there is free alcohol involved. Sip your beverages slowly and enjoy them rather than binge drinking. Drinking water in between or chewing your ice also helps keep you hydrated and avoid hangovers.
4. SPEAKING OF HYDRATION
Simply monitoring your daily water intake can make a huge difference to your overall health. Try filling a large water jug every morning and be sure to have it finished by the evening.
Your recommended healthy water intake per day = 0.033 x bodyweight (kgs) Example 0.033 x 77kgs = 2.5 litres
5. BE KIND TO YOURSELF
Don't torture yourself by jumping on the scales the day after Christmas. Focus on how you FEEL and let yourself enjoy finding a healthy and sustainable balance that you can adapt for years to come.
Remember: one healthy meal won't make you skinny, just like one unhealthy meal won't make you fat.
